Mechanism of functional mitral regurgitation during acute myocardial ischemia. J Am Coll Cardiol ; —5. Permanent pacemakers has revolutionized the management of symptomatic bradyarrhythmias. In India, about pacemakers are implanted every year. There is a huge cost variation between modern day pacemakers and conventional pacemakers.
The apparent advantages of newer generation pacemakers over conventional pacemakers are not clear. There has been some concern about development of cardiac failure with VVI pacemaker1. We have already reported the incidence of cardiac failure with VVI pacemaker from our registry which was surprisingly negligible. In this context, we studied bi-atrial and left ventricular function in patients following VVI pacing.
The shortest duration was 6 months and longest was months. Of the 31 patients,17 were males and 14 were females. The indications for VVI Pacemakers were complete heart block 22 patients and sick sinus syndrome 9 patients. Paradoxical septal motion PSM did not influence any parameter. Contrary to the popular belief, VVI pacemaker was not associated with worsening LV function and left atrial dimension in our study.
But there was a marginal deterioration in LV diastolic functional parameter. There was no significant impact on the quality of life indices, and no adverse outcome observed. We believe VVI pacemaker would continue to be safe and effective for our population. The usage of dual chamber pacemaker may be selectively used and need not be recommended routinely.

In this context, this study was planned. Strategically and conveniently located in Dubai, with easy access and good flight connections from India, this is a unique opportunity for any Indian delegate involved in heart health or cardiology to attend an established and influential scientific congress and exhibition.
Do not lose out! This will be the largest ever scientific meeting and congress on heart health to ever be held in the area — with over 12, delegates expected. Ensure that you and your organization seize the opportunity to share science with thousands of cardiologists, members of heart foundations and health professionals from around the world. WCC is the forum for all experts in the field as well as commercial, public and non-governmental parties to meet and exchange knowledge.
The World Heart Federation is the world's only global body dedicated to leading the fight against heart disease and stroke. We do this via a united community of almost member organizations that bring together the strength of medical societies and heart foundations, from all over the world. The WHF is a nongovernmental organization committed to uniting its members and leads the global fight against heart disease and stroke, with a focus on low-and middle-income countries.
