The 51 would be ok for me because I would have it high on the dash right in front of me on a friction mount. Just like I use the now. I bought one from thegpsstore.
Quite noted sir and it was not my intention to imply that. Log In Sign Up. Home » Garmin talk. What is the latest map version for Garmin Nuvi T? Another question, the gpx files — Would I need to retype the whole file then save as an scv to work on the Nuvi ?? The i.
Sorry if I wasn't clear on that. There only seem to be paper solutions for this problem as best as I can tell so far.
I test drove the file this weekend and found two bridges around here central NJ secondary roads missing I will try to do better in helping with this in the future. But, I'm in the same boat as davelinde. I'm generally in the North East area notorious for Low clearances.
I also use the Rand Mcnally Motor Carrier road atlas as a reference. Or should I wait for a corrected NEW file? Not to push but, any progress on how long that may be? Then I forgot about it. We were on one of the ring roads near DC and the alert went off. I was surrounded by truck and on a highway so we slowed down and just looked around. No idea what tripped it.
Then today near Jacksonville FL on 95 we got two more alerts. Is this an issue with the file accuracy? Or maybe the way I loaded it? Or maybe the GPS capability? In Jacksonville it was possible that we were actually driving OVER a low clearance on a road that went below us. No matter - I'd rather be warned too often then smash my RV once. If this isn't the ultimate POI to use and contribute to I hope to find it someday, it's needed.
Based upon what you've posted, the most likely scenario is that you were driving on top of a low clearance overpass.
Several times I've actually seen red light cameras near the freeway and the alert went off. Low clearance overpass would be the same. If it's close in any direction the alert goes off. I looked at them and both of those on I95 going thru Jacksonville is just that, The one further north isnt there anymore due to the construction on I 95 and then the one is a old one that was there from years ago before they built the new bridge. Schoharie, New York, lat. N42 W74 Country Rd.
Often the clearance is at one or both sides of the road. This could be due to a rounded construction or a flat construction that is not level. Not that I'd advise moving over a lane and finding the hard way that there is limited clearance. The first time I wanted to travel West through the tunnel I could not get complete information on the tunnel. So we went South and around to the park. The tunnel is plenty high in the center and large vehicles RVs, busses, etc get a permit and they stop traffic coming from the other direction and then you drive down the center of the tunnel.
Driving East they stopped us to wait for the traffic to clear. A number of people thanked us because we were all taking pictures from the area that you can't otherwise stop. In truckers atlas has low clearances listed too. I know that the aforementioned poi file is incorrect.
I haven't changed data because most are higher than what it says it should be. I drive tour buses and know of one not listed is 11'-0". I'll keep a better list as I go. Looking to get my dad a gps and he needs the low clearance poi feature. I know this may be a loaded question, but how complete is this POI? I drive from NY to FL and have a high 13'8" boat. I was going to purchase the CoPilot but it only operates in "truck" mode.
I am only concerned with low bridges so I was thinking that I could just get a loaded POI to warn me of bridges. Will this POI tell you the height of every bridge approaching? Log In Sign Up.

Finally, I will update the Garmin Nuvi Download full map to your PC then use MapInstall to send the portion you want to your You should be able to download the entire NA map to computer when you update one of your newer devices, then use MapInstall to select and install the exact regions you want on your If you use a SD card, you should be able to get all or most of the NA map on your with MapInstall by putting as much as will fit in internal storage and installing the remaining regions on the SD card.
You just need to make sure that the segments installed to the SD card do not exceed 2 GB. Edit: Oops! Sussamb beat me to the answer. Did you install the maps to your computer or just to the GPS device? It defaults just to the device unless you change the option. You may want to look at this post about files that remain on your device after map download. Now this is interesting My ISP gave me an upgrade Earlier in week. Must be their end as recent speed-tests have not varied more than from maximum throughput from test locations nationwide.
I'm updating, but I don't know why. This will be the first year where we basically have not left the house and I'm into my 80th year. At the last 6 month oil change, the car had less than 2, miles on it.
I noticed after doing the map download then going back to do the cleanup a small change. When you click on downloads you see in my case a folder for Before all maps were in the same map folder. I attempted to change the region for the Nuvi itself. The drop-down list that should show all regions only showed"Canada and the Border States" The other regions would not show-up as available options. Any thoughts on how to "unstick" "Canada and the Border States" as the only option of the Nuvi?
Look at my reply to Maddog67 earlier in this thread about 9 posts up on this page. The same solution should work for your nuvi Download full map to your PC then use MapInstall to send the portion you want to your I didn't know about this.
I have read about MapInstall but have never used it. I'd like to update via internal memory as I do not yet have a data card and understand the unit may be faster this way.
Can someone point me to a FAQ, or offer instructions how to do this? I'd like to have the step by step and how to configure the XML file if necessary, that is noted in the excerpt below. I also have a newer Mac, but the does not see to be recognized.
These older updaters used to provide nearly the newest map available to my old 27xx series and I assumed should have worked on the if Garmin hadn't dumped the system. However i also have an early issue non-LM nuvi 40 also bought second-hand which has Lower 48 as OEM mapping for which the previous owner bought North America LM as an "add on" and I'd be very upset if Garmin stopped honoring that subscription.
I also have some Garmin units that mount to the file system Zumo in Mass Storage Mode that have even more recent map updates There are non-Garmin free maps available by the OpenStreetMap folks that you could try.
